Iphone 16E Review: Apple has officially launched the iPhone 16E, marking a significant upgrade from the 2022 iPhone SE. This model introduces not only a new name but also a redesigned body, updated internals, and Apple’s first in-house 5G modem, the C1 chip.

A Fresh Identity: iPhone 16E
The shift from “SE” to “E” signifies the end of the SE era, aligning this model with the iPhone 16 series and Apple’s broader product lineup. This branding change reflects a more integrated approach to Apple’s smartphone offerings.
Iphone 16E Review: Pricing and Market Position
The iPhone 16E starts at $599, which is $170 more than the base model of the previous iPhone SE, priced at $429. However, it’s worth noting that the 16E includes 128GB of storage, whereas a 128GB iPhone SE was previously priced at $479.
Despite the upgrade, there’s still a $120 price gap. Comparatively, the standard iPhone 16 starts at $799, positioning the 16E at the upper end of the budget-friendly segment. However, it misses the ideal $500 price point that many consider the “sweet spot” for affordable smartphones.

Iphone 16E Review: Design and Display
Apple has made some key design changes with the iPhone 16E. The device now features a USB-C port for charging, replacing the Lightning port found in previous models. Surprisingly, the color options are limited to just black and white.

The iPhone 16E sports a 6.1-inch display, eliminating Apple’s smaller-sized phone option. However, the screen remains locked at a 60Hz refresh rate, which feels like a missed opportunity, considering that most budget Android competitors offer higher refresh rates.
Performance and AI Capabilities
One of the standout features of the iPhone 16E is its ability to run Apple Intelligence, making it one of the most affordable devices capable of utilizing Apple’s AI features. Powered by the A18 chip, the phone promises better performance and efficiency.
The most significant addition is Apple’s proprietary 5G modem, the C1 chip. In a launch video, Apple claims this is the most power-efficient modem ever in an iPhone. The combination of the A18 processor and the C1 chip is expected to enhance battery life, though real-world testing will be needed to confirm these claims.
Camera System
The iPhone 16E features a single 48-megapixel rear camera. While there is no ultra-wide option, the high-resolution sensor allows for sensor cropping, effectively offering 1x and 2x zoom modes. Though it’s not a true dual-camera system, it provides a similar experience.
On the front, there’s a 12-megapixel selfie camera that supports Face ID. Unlike the standard iPhone 16 models, the 16E retains a notch and lacks Apple’s Dynamic Island.

Missing Features
Several features found in higher-end iPhones are absent in the 16E:
- No MagSafe support, meaning limited wireless charging and accessory compatibility.
- Wireless charging is capped at a sluggish 7.5W.
- No ultra-wide or telephoto lens.
While these omissions help keep costs down, they may make the device less appealing to those seeking premium features at a lower price.

Durability and Longevity
The iPhone 16E comes with Apple’s Ceramic Shield for enhanced screen protection and boasts an IP68 water and dust resistance rating. This means it can survive submersion in water up to 6 meters deep for 30 minutes.
The big question remains: how long will this phone stay relevant? With the transition to the “E” branding, will Apple update this model annually? Will we see an iPhone 17E next year? Only time will tell.
